Call Your Congressperson to Support Weed Freedom

Weed is making its way into mainstream politics, as at least two bills will be introduced in congress that are aimed at legalizing and regulating cannabis in America. The AP reports that Democratic Reps. Earl Blumenauer of Oregon and Jared Polis of Colorado will introduce a bill to regulate weed like booze; and another piece of legislation they are introducing would reschedule marijuana, and alter the tax code so that the IRS cannot unfairly burden weed businesses with the 280e provision.

So as a weed activist, what can you do to help?

CALL YOUR CONGRESSPERSON. No, really. Do it this time. This is important.

Here is a link to a site that can give you your congresspeople’s contact info: http://www.contactingthecongress.org/

It only takes a few minutes to call and express your support for ending cannabis prohibition. If enough voices can flood the dialogue in support of cannabis, we could make a difference and move this legislation forward.

My conversation will go like this:

“Hello. My name is ______________. I am calling to express my hope that Representative ____________ will support efforts being put forth by representatives Earl Blumenauer and Jared Polis to legalize and regulate cannabis called the Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition Act of 2013. We can no longer afford to jail five times as many people as the rest of the world, most for non-violent and petty drug crimes. It is time that we begin to have more sensible approaches to dealing with cannabis in our society. Marijuana is safer than alcohol and should be treated as such. Quit taking people to jail for weed. It is not working.”

That simple statement made by a million people can move mountains. Do not stop at just calling yourself. Find a friend or family member to make a call call too. If we can make enough noise, we may be able to find some traction in these efforts. Please do your part and be a good weed activist today. Thanks.
